Pressing Reset

Writer: Nicholas FagenNicholas Fagen

Hey guys!

Wow. It’s been a minute, huh? Actually, scratch that—it’s been a long minute. Like, an embarrassingly long, “Oh yeah, I totally meant to get to that” kind of long. The kind of long where I blinked, and suddenly my last blog post was from June 11, 2023. Yikes.

I’d love to say I have a good excuse—like I was off on some grand adventure, sailing the high seas, uncovering lost civilizations, or writing the next great American novel. But the truth? Life happened. Work happened. And somewhere along the way, this blog—my own space, the one thing I could always count on to be purely mine—fell to the bottom of the never-ending to-do list.

And if you’ve ever had something you love—a hobby, a passion, a side project that makes you feel like you—take a backseat to the chaos of daily life, you know exactly how this feels.

You tell yourself you’ll get back to it soon. That next week will be less crazy. That after this one last deadline, one last obligation, one last whatever, you’ll finally have time to breathe.

And then suddenly, it’s been months. Maybe even years. And you don’t even know where to start anymore.

Because that’s the thing about falling out of a rhythm—whether it’s writing, playing an instrument, going to the gym, painting, reading for fun—it gets easier and easier to let the days slip by without it. And harder and harder to pick it back up again.

The irony? The longer you go without it, the more you miss it.

But the thing about writing—especially writing that’s meant to reflect real life—is that you can’t fake the moments. And for a while, I just didn’t feel like I had anything real to say. My brain was so occupied with press releases, social media strategies, analytics, and making sure other people’s stories got told that I completely neglected my own.

And I hate that. Because if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that storytelling is everything to me.

It’s how I make sense of the world. It’s how I connect with people. It’s how I remind myself that even the smallest moments can mean something if you just stop long enough to appreciate them.

And I haven’t been stopping. Not for a long time.

So here’s me, pressing reset.

No grand declarations. No “New Year, New Me” speeches. No promises that I’ll post every week or stick to some rigid schedule.

Just me, showing up again, because I miss this.

Because I miss writing something that isn’t optimized for an algorithm... or constantly getting bumped down the priority list for things that feel way less important.

Because if I’ve learned anything, it’s this: Life will take everything you’re willing to give it.

It’ll take your nights, your weekends, your brainpower, your creativity—it’ll eat up every spare second if you let it. And it won’t say thank you.

But the things that make you feel alive? The things that bring you joy, that remind you who you are outside of the daily grind? They won’t fight for your attention.

They’ll wait. Quietly.

Until one day, you realize how much time you’ve lost.

And if that realization hits a little too close to home, consider this your sign to press reset too.

There’s never going to be a perfect time. Just start. Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s awkward. Even if you feel like you have no idea what you’re doing anymore.

More to come soon.

I mean it this time.

Because some things are too important to leave on the back burner.

(But if I disappear again, feel free to yell at me.)

Pretty Picture_edited.jpg

Hey there! I’m Nick Fagen, a writer, storyteller, and marketing strategist based in Chicagoland. I graduated from Gannon University in 2017 with a B.A. in English and a minor in Journalism Communications, and I’ve been bringing stories to life ever since.

Right now, I’m the Head of Storytelling & Marketing at LW&CO, where I craft content, build brand narratives, and help organizations connect with their audiences in ways that actually resonate. But at my core, I’m just someone who lives for a good story—whether it’s in writing, marketing, film, or those everyday moments that stick with you.
